Ten years ago an impenetrable field known as “Hell’s Gate” appeared in Tokyo, completely blocking out the natural sky, almost as if the Earth were enclosed in a dome. At the same time, psychics who wield paranormal powers at the cost of their conscience also emerged. Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival syndicates vying to unlock the secret powers of Hell’s Gate for their own purposes.
I won’t go into the plot any more than that, suffice to say it’s a very complex plot with more than a few twists, turns and betrayals which I certainly didn’t see coming. People and organizations are certainly not always who they first appear to be. Each entity (supernatural and human) become well-developed characters over the length of the series, each with their own aspirations, objectives and loyalties. The inability of the contractors to have a concience means even the slightest display of emotion is a big deal, and over the series you’ll find yourself realising how significant the odd eye movement actually is.
This is a good series with a plot that’s been brilliantly woven together.
